Day of Giving

THANK YOU!

Day of Giving has enhanced the exceptional work and programming taking place across campus focused on supporting Black student excellence, Indigenous priorities and Inclusive excellence.

We are grateful to the McMaster community for all you have contributed to make #MacDayOfGiving a success!

At McMaster, we believe we can only be successful if everyone in our campus community has what they need to thrive.

On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, we invite you to invest in the success of Black, Indigenous, and equity-deserving students by making a gift in support of academic, research, leadership and mentorship programs, financial awards, mental health initiatives and more.

Gifts of any amount to the identified priority funds will be amplified and will help unlock matching dollars provided by anonymous donors!

Black Student Excellence

Your gift will support student awards and an eco-system of opportunities including mentorship and academic advising, mental health and well-being, financial literacy, and career guidance, which together enrich the Black student experience at all stages.

Indigenous Priorities

Expandable List

What is McMaster’s Day of Giving?

Day of Giving is a community-wide, 24-hour fundraising campaign. McMaster’s Day of Giving is focused on raising funds to support programs and opportunities aimed at empowering students belonging to Black, Indigenous and equity-deserving communities to achieve their goals and enrich their learning experience at McMaster. We invite members of the McMaster community and beyond to invest in Inclusive Excellence at McMaster by making a gift in support of academic, research, leadership and mentorship programs, financial awards, mental health initiatives and more.

Day of Giving is a pan-university initiative. All aspects of the day were developed in close consultation and partnership with the African and Caribbean Faculty Association of McMaster, Black Student Success Centre, Indigenous Education Council, Indigenous Student Services, and the Equity and Inclusion office.

What is Inclusive Excellence, and why is it important?

Inclusive Excellence is an approach that recognizes that a diversity of peoples, perspectives, knowledges, and ways of knowing must be intentionally and authentically engaged to achieve McMaster’s vision for excellence and transformational impact through student learning, scholarly research, and global and local community engagement. At McMaster we are committed to Inclusive Excellence because we know we can only be successful if everyone in our community has what they need to thrive.

What is the Goal?

The objective of Day of Giving is to engage, educate, and unite over 1500 members of the McMaster community by encouraging alumni, faculty, staff, and friends to make a gift in support of a range of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) funds at McMaster, and to participate in events that shine a light on a range of topics related to Inclusive Excellence.

As well, we aim to support and reinforce McMaster’s commitment to Inclusive Excellence by establishing support for EDI initiatives as a fundraising priority. Day of Giving builds on the exceptional work taking place across campus to develop programming and supports for equity-deserving students and is intended to reflect McMaster’s ongoing investment, learning, and commitment in the area of Inclusive Excellence.

How do I decide where to give?

On Day of Giving, we encourage you to direct your gift to Black Student Excellence, Indigenous Priorities, and Inclusive Excellence funds. However, thanks to donor-funded matching funds, gifts made on May 11 to any of the identified priority funds are worth even more. Gifts to any of the identified priority funds will be amplified and will help unlock matching dollars provided by anonymous donors!

Where appropriate, the African-Caribbean Faculty Association of McMaster, Black Student Success Centre, Indigenous Education Council, Joint Indigenous Administration Consultation Group, President’s Advisory Committee on Building an Inclusive Community and the Equity and Inclusion Office will advise on spending from these funds.
